Yirinda, Ben Ely's Mungo Fungo Band Lead New Brisbane Music Festival

The team behind Zang! Records—who previously contributed to the Sonic Masala Festival—is back and has welcomed a new community music festival, That Sound Over The Fence.

A Brisbane music event that champions a community-first ethos, That Sound Over The Fence will raise funds for the radio station 4ZZZ.

The event will take place on Saturday, 17 August, at The Triffid, with a line-up sporting the likes of Yirinda, Ben Ely’s Mungo Fungo Band, Totally Unicorn, Chimers (NSW), and more. You can check out the full line-up below and buy tickets here.

In a statement, festival co-creator Branko Cosic cited the importance of building a community event that could highlight the diverse local music scene. “We sought a fresh challenge and a name that could fully encapsulate the essence of what the festival had evolved into,” Cosic said, “A community event that unites diverse local music scenes in unwavering support of the radio station that has been a backbone for us all.”

Cosic continued, “There is so much good music happening out there, and the community is strong. We just want a chance for everyone to catch up and feel a part of the scene while enjoying some great bands and supporting community radio!”

Festival co-creator Jack McDonnell added, “That Sound Over The Fence captures what we love about the Brisbane scene.

“There are so many different sounds and communities, but they are only a fence hop away from finding something great. Brisbane does a mixed bill better than anywhere else, and we want to celebrate everyone catching up together and sharing our beautiful scene.”
