Mario Biondi Gears Up For Australian Debut

The Music.com.au | May 9, 2024

Even if you swear you’ve never heard of Mario Biondi, you’ve almost certainly heard some of his music: the Sicilian stalwart is widely renowned as the number one soul singer in Italy, with all nine of his studio albums earning critical acclaim. Now, he’s gearing up to embark on his first-ever Australian tour.

Biondi’s short trek Down Under will begin in Brisbane (Meanjin), where he’s scheduled to perform at The Tivoli on Tuesday May 21. He’ll enrapture fans in Melbourne (Naarm) next, playing The Palms at the Crown on Friday May 24, before wrapping up in Sydney (Eora) with a show at the Enmore Theatre booked for the following evening (May 25).

Joining him for all three shows will be Australia’s own modern-day soul icon Diana Rouvas, who you might recognise as the winner of The Voice in 2019. Tickets for all three of the shows are on sale now – find them here.

The Australian run comes as part of a sprawling 100-show world tour, which will see Biondi perform in a jaw-dropping 23 countries altogether. It comes in support of his incredible album Crooning Undercover, which arrived last September. Just last month, too, he released the standalone single Et Tu Come Stai? featuring Anna Safroncik.

Other highlights in Biondi’s career include a single release with Earth, Wind And Fire, collaborations with the likes of Chaka Khan and Michael Bolton, and even appearance in a Disney movie; in 2008, he recorded the official Italian versions of Everybody Wants To Be A Cat and Thomas O’Malley for the 1970 classic The Aristocats.
