Girl and Girl Channel “Joy And Misery” On New Single ‘Oh Boy!’

Girl And Girl have shared another new single from their forthcoming debut studio album, Call A Doctor. The latest track, ‘Oh Boy!’, is the third to be shared thus far. It follows on from both ‘Hello’ in February and ‘Mother’ earlier this month. According to lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Kai James, the song remained half-written “for a few years” before he and the band committed to completing it.

“I really loved the first half, and had kind of psyched myself out of finishing it,” he said in a press statement. “When it was finally demoed early last year, this big sort of chaotic, sprawling word-vomit poured out of me. That seemed to tie the whole thing up nicely. It’s [a song] brimming with joy and misery and sarcasm – all things Girl And Girl.”

To coincide with the single’s release, an accompanying music video has been shared for ‘Oh Boy!’ It was directed by Tayla Lauren, who also worked with the band on the videos for ‘Hello’ and ‘Mother’. James plays a stage manager at a local community theatre, who owns a prop rainbow that instantly brings people happiness when they walk beneath it.

The video was shot on location at the Tom Atkin Hall on the Gold Coast, which is described as “the Gold Coast’s only community-owned and community-run, not-for-profit hall.” It can be viewed below.

Girl And Girl – ‘Oh Boy!’

“The band had just returned from SXSW in Texas on a Monday and we needed the clip by the following Saturday, or something silly like that,” James recalls. “We [had] five days to pull everything together, but God did Tayla and Joel [Tronoff, director of photography] help! Vibes were really high on the shoot day, with everyone singing along and shooting confetti at each other.”

Girl And Girl recently completed their headlining Australian tour in support of ‘Hello’, and will now head to the US in support of Royel Otis. Call A Doctor is set for release on Friday May 24th, via Virgin Music Australia locally and Sub Pop Records outside of Australia and New Zealand.
