Over the weekend, BeachLife Festival, which takes place at Redondo Beach in Los Angeles, presented its annual programming. Commencing on Friday, May 3, the initial day of entertainment brought forth headliner Sting, who played along with his audience, taking fan requests and reprising The Police classics, like “Walking on The Moon” and “Roxanne.” The initial day of music also boasted sets from Dirty Heads, City in Color, G. Love & Donavon Frankenreiter and more.

Day two picked up with the same feeling of excitement with afternoon sets from The Expendables, prior to Chevy Metals’ arrival on the Hightide Stage, where the late Taylor Hawkins’ son, Shane, dominated behind the kit. Later on, Pepper delivered their festival frame, followed by Santigold’s appearance on the Lowtide Stage. During Steel Pulse, the artists cut into “Babylon Makes the Rules,” amongst others. Before Incubus’ headlining set, Devo ran through a plethora of picks, ranging from “Whip It” to The Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”

The final day of the BeachLife Festival was met with weather challenges, resulting in cancellations due to high winds, ultimately scrubbing Trey Anastasio & Classic TAB, My Morning Jacket and Fleet Foxes from the bill. Before weather circumstances shifted the outcome, Margo Price clicked into numbers from her self-penned collection, including a set ending, “A Little Pain,” from All American Made.

Courtney Barnett also dipped into favored material, pulling from Sometimes I Sit and Thing, and Sometimes I Just Sit, Thing Take Time, Take Time, Tell Me How You Really Feel and The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas. ZZ Top’s frame ticked up to 14 songs before Billy Gibbons brought the high winds to the staff’s attention and cut the performance short, but not before “La Grange.” “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Legs,” and others.
