Iconic NZ Record Store Expands

The Music.com.au | November 23, 2022

The Flying Nun Record Store in Aotearoa, New Zealand has moved to Cuba St, Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington city) so that they can expand their iconic store and include a larger selection of the best alternative and interesting vinyl LPs picked by the team at Flying Nun.

Formerly in Newtown, the record store has replaced independent music specialists Rough Peel Music and is now just a few doors down from Slow Boat Records and San Fran Bathhouse

The team noted on social media that they are “a bit sad to leave the friendly environs of Newtown,” but go on to say that they recognise the strong musical background of their new location on Cuba st.

They have also explained that they are “quickly expanding their range of stock and, as always, everything is on the website, and there’s free shipping on orders of $40 in Aotearoa.”

Flying Nun is an institution for North Island music lovers and tourists alike. Not only do they operate a record store, but they also run a label and magazine, creating a major cultural hub that focuses on community and supporting up-and-coming artists.

The label, in particular, has championed a wide range of artists since 1981 who have defined Australian and New Zealand music culture, such as Aldous Harding, Fazerdaze, Tiny Ruins and more.

Their online magazine also helps support the artists signed to Flying Nun Records, with the odd addition of other up-and-coming alternative artists.

Their new location for Flying Nun Records is open now. For more info, visit there website here
