Amy Shark Was Worried Her Fans Wouldn't Recognise Russell Crowe At Groovin The Moo

The Music.com.au | April 27, 2023

Russell Crowe joined Amy Shark on stage at the Canberra leg of Groovin The Moo on Sunday, 23 April, to assist her during the Mark Hoppus vocal on the Love Monster hit, Psycho.

In a radio interview with Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie this morning, Crowe discussed his appearance and Shark’s nerves about fans possibly not recognising the Gladiator star.

“Mate it was fantastic. It was a pretty funny moment though,” he began. Crowe told the radio hosts that backstage, Shark planned to introduce him on stage, and he responded, “I’m like, ‘We’re doing the song Psycho right?’ So, the male voice doesn’t come in until one minute into the song.”

He continued, “I’m like ‘Hey, you introduce me, I come out, stand there scratching my nuts.’ Probably not the coolest option. So why don’t you just start the song I’ll just walk out and start.

“And she goes ‘Yeah, but what if people don’t know it’s you?’ I’m like ‘Ah, you know, they might. But if you want to say something, say are you not entertained?,” referencing his iconic line in Gladiator.

Fitzy replied, “She said just to make sure people know who you are, can you come out as Maximus is that okay?”

Crowe concluded, “I might actually end up doing that again with her somewhere down the track. So you’ve given me an idea now.”

Crowe previously joined Shark on stage to perform at his Indoor Garden Party in January.

Posting the clip on her Instagram story, Shark called Crowe Hoppus’s understudy and captioned their performance, “This is how much Russell Crowe likes my song.”

Amy Shark joined the judging panel of Australian Idol’s comeback earlier this year, alongside Kyle Sandilands, Harry Connick Jr and Meghan Trainor.
