Victoria Monét unveils cinematic ‘Alright’ music video: A tribute to 90s pop culture icons

FM For Music | June 11, 2024

The highly anticipated official music video for her hit song Alright has been unveiled by Victoria Monét, the acclaimed singer/songwriter, and producer, who boasts three GRAMMY® Awards. Produced by Kaytranada, this track has been a fan favorite since its debut on her album JAGUAR II. Now, with a cinematic visual directed by the legendary Dave Meyers and choreography by Sean Bankhead, Monét once again commands the spotlight.

The video pays homage to iconic moments in 90’s and Y2K pop culture, with Monét channeling influences from Missy Elliot, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, and Hype Williams’s film Belly. Set against a backdrop of eye-popping cinematography and styled by notable stylist Kollin Carter, Monét exudes sheer feminine confidence and a winner’s circle attitude.

Speaking about the video, Monét expressed her excitement, stating, ““Alright is about liberation and freedom at its core! This video is a visual presentation of that sentiment through freedom of movement and fluidity between masculine and feminine energy. It was an honor to work alongside Dave Meyers and Sean Bankhead and this cast on this visual! What a crazy combo!! Plus, EVERY single person who had their hands on this visual was extremely passionate from inception, and we all worked really hard to bring it to life! They showed up with their A game surpassing what we all imagined. Serious teamwork! We all patiently and meticulously crafted it and are extremely excited to release it into the world! There’s no better month to release this visual than pride month, black music month and the beginning of summer 24! I can’t wait to see where dance artists and the ballroom culture take it.”

Alright, released via Lovett Music/RCA Records, made its global broadcast premiere on MTV Live, MTVU, MTV Biggest Pop, BET Soul, and on the Paramount Times Square billboards, showcasing Monét’s rising star power.

Monét’s accolades extend with five nominations at the 2024 BET Awards for her album JAGUAR II. She also earned her first Kids Choice Awards nomination and made history at the 2024 Grammy Awards as the first Black woman to win in multiple categories. With a #1 hit at Urban Radio and a debut at Coachella, Monét’s versatility shines. Her album, JAGUAR II, cements her as a trend-setting star. As she gears up for the next era, fans await her next move eagerly.
