Pioneer Releases new 4-channel DJ Mixer (DJM-A9)

EDM Life | March 2, 2023

The 4-channel DJM-A9 sets the bar for club standard mixers. It has significant improvements over the DJM-900NXS2 in terms of playability and connectivity, as well as a plethora of new capabilities that will help you improve your performances. While keeping the features and design that have become club standards, the DJM-A9 has also been enhanced as a musical instrument for more emotive and dynamic performances.

The DJM-next-generation A9’s club sound is the result of rigorous development and fine tweaking of pre-existing technology as well as all-new parts. The master and booth output sections use 32-bit high-quality D/A converters from the same manufacturer, giving you the ability to hear sound from the booth monitors that is identical to what the crowd hears on the dancefloor. The channel input section is outfitted with an ESS Technology 32-bit high-quality A/D converter for crystal-clear, high-resolution sound. With carefully chosen new components and design optimization, even the sound quality of the microphone input and headphone outputs has been enhanced.

Expanded space surrounding the EQ knobs gives you more freedom to twist your fingers, and the channel section’s high-quality, bright LEDs make it simpler than ever to gauge sound levels visually. The frequency response of the isolators has been tuned to make the most of the most recent music production traits, enabling you to perform more dynamically than before. You can also experience silky-smooth mixing and quick, stable scratching thanks to the third-generation MAGVEL FADER crossfader and better, slicker channel faders than the DJM-900NXS2.

When you activate the recent Center Lock function and use the well-liked Sound Color FX, each knob will stop turning once it is in the middle position. This eliminates the danger of turning the knob too far and switching to the opposite parameter, allowing you to easily adjust the effect to the hi parameter’s maximum or the low parameter’s minimum. The Sound Color FX knobs function similarly to those on the DJM-900NXS2 when Center Lock is disabled.

A new color display that contains lighting that matches the horizontal arrangement of the X-Pad enables more intuitive control with a single finger slide, and it helps you quickly and precisely grasp the status of the selected effect. To produce a distinctive analog tape-style sound, you can alter the Echo and Ping Pong effects using the X-Pad. Also, you can employ the three new Beat FXs (Mobius, Triplet Filter, and Triplet Roll) to offer more variety to your performances out of the 14 total Beat FXs.

Even better, you may now quickly apply effects to your chosen channel because the channel picker is now a distinct button.

A feature never previously seen on a DJ mixer, the phantom powered input allows you to connect a top-notch condenser mic straight to the DJM-A9. Also, you can alter the sound of your voice and energize the audience with your singing thanks to the three new microphone effects (Echo, Pitch, and Megaphone) and a separate reverb effect.

When you wish to grab the mic and address the crowd, you may quickly and easily turn the mic input on or off using the newly introduced Push To Speak button. You can MC for the live audience while recording your mix without vocals if you want to omit the audio from the mic from the recording output.

The dual USB Type-B and Type-C connections (there are two of each) enable simultaneous connection of two PC/Mac systems, enabling smooth back-to-back sets and seamless transitions between DJs. Also, you may wirelessly add audio tracks to your sets from other devices like smartphones and utilize all the mixer’s capabilities and effects to adjust the sound due to a Bluetooth® input that you can route to any channel on the DJM-A9. The DJM-genuine A9’s send capabilities are provided by the Multi I/O section’s independent channel selector, which allows external effects to be employed independently of Beat FX. As a result, you can direct the sound that was affected by an external device—such as an RMX-1000 or a delay pedal—to a different channel from the one it originated from.

Along with another DJ, plug in your headphones and take advantage of the freedom to listen to the channels you wish. It is simple for two DJs to cue up tracks during changeovers and back-to-back performances thanks to separate cue buttons, volume controls, and mix balance sliders for each set of headphones. Also, you may adjust the high and low frequencies in the 2-band booth EQ to complement the master output and harmonize the vibe in the booth with the energy on the dance floor.

Stagehand, the first PRO DJ LINK remote management app for front of house staff, is compatible with the DJM-A9. An engineer can monitor things like level meters and the DJ’s use of the mixer’s controls using an iPad connected wirelessly to the mixer via a LAN router (separately available), making it simpler to optimize the sound system’s settings and run a smoother, more impactful show without having to stop the DJ’s performance or even enter the booth.
