GRXCE Choose The Best Wines & Other Beverages To Pair With Music

The Music.com.au | May 31, 2023

Wine: Chardonnay

Tasting notes: medium to full-bodied, white – citrus, tropical, vanilla

Song: (Jono) Daily J – Golden Light – my introduction to Daily J started with this song. This track reminds me of a picnic in a field, clear skies, sunlight, warmth and happiness; sounds like a perfect song for a Chardonnay.

Wine: Sauvignon Blanc

Tasting notes: light to medium-bodied white – exotic fruit, mint, grass

Song: (Alex) Remi Wolf – Photo ID (with Dominic Fike) – this fruity yet energetic pop banger could kickstart your pres, or be your bathtub anthem, either of which are perfectly suited to Sav Blanc.

Wine: Riesling

Tasting notes: white – citrus and fruit, some sweet herbal elements

Song: (Em) – Crumb – Balloon – light, zesty and floral. This song makes you feel like you’re dazed and camped out in nature, preferably in spring. Said daze is always better when paired with a Riesling.

Wine: Pinot Grigio

Tasting notes: light bodied white – apple and white floral

Song: (Em) – Tennis – Runner – this song is wispy and light-filled but slices through with a freshness that really grounds you. A Pinot Grigio has the same effect. Enjoy together.

Wine: Moscato

Tasting notes: dessert white wine – peach, apricot, orange blossom

Song: (Jam) – Djo – Personal Lies – this song has the right amount of fuzz and laid-back energy to feel like a Moscato. Still some bite but mainly just a smooth, excellent track.

Wine: Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting notes: full-bodied red – cherry, spices and cedar

Song: (Em) – Hermanos Guitérrez – Cerca De Ti – the instrumentation in this track is so earthy and delicious that it would lend itself beautifully to the woodsy, spicy notes of a Cab Sav. A great track for when your skin is warm and the air sweet.

Wine: Pinot Noir

Tasting notes: lighter bodied red – floral and berry

Song: (Alex) Sleep Outside – Skeleton – despite existing in a heavier genre, this song has lots of movement and brightness, which would make it a playful pairing with Pinot Noir.

Wine: Merlot

Tasting notes: medium to full-bodied red – cherry, chocolate, plum

Song: (Jam) The 1975 – Chocolate – again a pretty obvious choice for this one, it might feel a bit boppy for a red wine but I think it fits perfectly as a medium-bodied track.

Wine: Shiraz

Tasting notes: spice, black fruit, pepper

Song: (Jono) Masego & FKJ – Tadow – spice and pepper made me think bold and confident. The saxophone cutting through a mellow foundation with an unmistakable melody + Masego’s of a fearless, confident woman.

Wine: Rose

Tasting notes: watermelon, strawberry

Song: (Jam) Ula – strawberry cheeks – almost went with Harry Styles‘s Watermelon Sugar here as an obvious pick but I think Ula’s lightheartedness in this track is a much better fit for a Rose.

Beverage: Champagne

Tasting notes: sparkling wine – almond, cream, toast

Song: (Jam) Taylor Swift – Bejeweled – my love for T Swift has had a resurgence in the past few months and what better song for Champagne? It’s bubbly, it’s sparkling, it’s bejewelled.

Beverage: Prosecco

Tasting notes: sparkling wine – green apple, lager, cream

Song: (Jono) Silk Sonic – Fly As Me – from a casual bottomless brunch to a suit and tie event, when the prosecco’s come out, everyone’s feelin’ themselves after a glass or two.

Beverage: Special Mention: Box Wine (AKA the ol’ ‘Goon Bag’)

Tasting notes: Main notes of Victory and Fortune. Subtle hints of your mate’s backyard, the park, a hills hoist and foil bag.

Song: (Jono, Em and Jam) DARTZ – Toyota Corolla – because nothing screams Aussie more than goon and a Toyota Ca-Rolls Royce.

Wasted On You is out now. Check it out below.
