A Possible New Album From Miley Cyrus Appeared On Streaming Services

The Music.com.au | April 26, 2023

Could Miley Cyrus, at the peak of her fame, release a surprise album?

That’s what some fans think has happened, as a new artist with under 250 monthly listeners named Clara Pierce (who couldn’t look less like Cyrus) appeared on Spotify with the album, Down With Me, with a timbre suspiciously close to the pop star we know as Miley Cyrus.

At the time of writing, the album has already been removed from Spotify and Apple Music.

On the track that remains on YouTube, I Don’t Wanna Tell You Lies, it certainly sounds like Miley Cyrus – this doesn’t feel like AI.

Whether or not Cyrus uploaded the album to streaming services is to be discovered. Some fans have taken to TikTok and said that Cyrus used a pseudonym because she didn’t want to be found, or the name Clara Pierce is a reference to Beyoncé’s alter-ego, Sasha Fierce, and this is Miley’s expression of that side of herself.

Rolling Stone reports that on the track Sagittarius (Miley Cyrus’s star sign), Pierce references a She Is Coming track: “I told you once before, I’m my Mother’s Daughter.” At Least I Can Say That I Tried ties into Slide Away – in the latter, Cyrus sings, “I want my house in the hills/Don’t want the whiskey and pills.”

On the Down With Me release, she digs deeper: “It feels like overkill/Don’t need another pill/Got lost in the chaos/You don’t know when to stop/When I wake up, look over at him/He’s still so fucked up/I’m always afraid of what I will find.”

Miley Cyrus released her eighth album, Endless Summer Vacation, last month.

It wasn’t quite the devastating breakup album fans expected, but rather an empowering journey on the dance floor as she regained her agency. The album’s lead single, Flowers, has topped the Radio Monitor Hot 50 chart for 13 weeks. The second single, River, has stayed at #14 on the chart.
