The beauty of Fletcher Gull‘s ‘Lost In Berlin’ is that it was born from great emotional pain – something that bleeds into every note. Gull (a nom de plume sourced from his favourite book the classic ‘Jonathon Livingstone Seagull) says of the inspiration behind the track:

When I lived in Canada I loved a German girl but her visa ran out so she had to go home. I thought about her every day. During a very drunken night I had the bright idea of booking a flight to Berlin to surprise her.

I don’t know what I was expecting as I hadn’t spoken to her for months. I rocked up at her doorstep but no one was home so I just waited there noodling on my guitar. When she got home she was hand in hand with a guy. She looked horrified.

This bittersweet tale of unrequited love is a delicate and reflective track that captures the reckless behavior induced by love, behavior that doesn’t necessarily always have a happy ending:
