Live Review: The Mission / The Nilz – The Button Factory, Dublin 25.05.2022

The Mission rolled in to Dublin with their Summer Festival Tour 2022 playing The Button Factory and support came from Dublin punks The Nilz.

Having seen these guys a number of times I knew I was in for a good show of hard hitting smut punk.
The Nilz hailing from Dublin have been entertaining Dublin’s punks for awhile now and they never disappoint with their stage antics which incudes a fireworks display at the end LOL (you need to see a gig to get the joke)
Eddie Nil tonight is wearing a studded gimp mask which after a little time came off as did the white suit jacket, guess it gets hot under there .
The guys played a fast paced half hour set of eleven songs a lot of which can be found on their debut album Unicorn Hardspots, and finishing out their set with the Electric Six classic Gay Bar.

So as Eddie Nil said last night I know most are here to see The Mission, they are but not all Ed. The venue has filled up just before the band take the stage and open up with Beyond The Pale / Tomorrow Never Knows / Serpents Kiss.
The band seem in good form tonight as the banter between Wayne and Craig is flowing at times with Craig winding Wayne up about making a slight error on a song and Wayne asking why do you always have to be grumpy lol, is it because you last your hat last night in Belfast or that you had to many Oysters with your wine, by the way how much wine did you have? lol
Craig replying with, its this dam air conditioner blowing on my head the whole time and I know you’d be the first to moan about it and maybe a bottle or more lol.
Next up we got Metamorphosis / Naked and Savage / Severina.
At one point Wayne mentioned it was his birthday tomorrow and had the crowd sing happy birthday for him and saying he was going to milk this fact for the next number of days and a crowd member shouts you were born in 64 to which Wayne’s surprised they know.
Only You and You Alone / Sea of Love / Like a Child Again get an airing after which my all time favourite Mission song gets played Like a Butterfly.
Some of the die hard Eskimos (are they still called that) are in tonight and when Wasteland gets played the obligatory confetti gets thrown into the air at the beginning that some have prepared before the show, its a ritual!
Deliverance brings us to the end.
What seemed like a little longer than usually for an encore brake that band are back for the first of two encores, this first consisting of Dance on Glass / Belief / The Crystal Ocean.
After another break they’re back and its Swoon / Blood Brother where Wayne isn’t wielding his guitar, only picking it back up to finish the night with Tower of Strength where the crowd sing the chorus back very loudly.
So this old goth and many others left happy and content after a great two hour set.
