Surgeon is set to release a new album on Tresor

Titled Shell~Wave and arriving on May 2nd, the album is described as “a deeply personal document” reflecting both his present and past, shaped by three decades as a pioneering figure in UK techno.

Discussing the project, Surgeon—real name Anthony Child—shared: “To create this album, I had to deeply examine my connection to techno. I’ve been immersed in it for so long, yet there are aspects I feel distant from. I often get asked, ‘What is techno to you?’—but I can’t express it in words. This album is my answer.”

The UK producer and DJ also drew inspiration from the atmospheric recording techniques of ’60s producer Joe Meek and the sounds of ’70s reggae. “Meek understood how to create emotional intensity through music—something I find more important than technical perfection. Revisiting older techniques after 30 years has been fascinating, like constantly exploring only to end up back at the beginning, bridging past and present.”
