Shazamfest: Vaudeville Meets The Carnival Meets Woodstock July 7th to 10th, 2022
At long last, a real Shazamfest will be happening July 7th to 10th, 2022 in the Eastern Townships.
If you’ve never been to Shazamfest, imagine if Vaudeville, a carnival and Woodstock joined forces. How cool would that be?
“It’s a fantasy world that you enter on Thursday and hopefully don’t leave till Monday”, says Ziv Przytyk, whom Montreal Rocks interviewed.
Family Friendly
There is a reason why this event has three generations of attendees, with a good number of kids who will be taken care of with the many planned activities.
“We remember how to play when we watch the kids play.” So, this festival will let you get in touch with your inner child.
When the grandparents take the kids to bed, the parents get to stay up and keep the party alive.
They also don’t have to worry about feeding the kids. For $25, the kids are fed 10 meals plus snacks twice a day for the whole festival. Now that’s a vacation!
Event Grounds
Located in the Eastern Townships, a stone’s throw away from Ayer’s Cliff, Shazamfest if held on an eco-friendly farm. Legend has it that it was where the tribes would gather from generations past.
After parking and setting up your tent if you are participating in the camping, you will find a path that will bring you down into a natural amphitheater that is outfitted with everything a festival goer would ever want and need.
This year, 4 stages will be used, 3 during the day and the main stage at night.
You will find a bar, a BBQ joint that serves the Shazam Burger…that I still dream about…a coffee shop, and various local vendors with eclectic finds.
If you are hot, there is a stream that is available to cool down, and last year, there was a giant slip and slide down the hill during the day.
The Music
In the past, you could hear everything from Classical to Punk, and everything in between.
Variety is the key, and this year the addition of EDM will surely make dancing into the night an added experience.
A battle of the bands was held and Sunset Drip “blew our socks off. They played 8 bars and we knew they were the winners of the night.”
Another band to look out for is Slow Gin Fizz, a Rockabilly band originally from neighboring Sherbrooke.
Worldwide Soundsystem will be providing some Reggae grooves during the day at the amphitheater stage.
P’Tit Belliveau will bring some “Acadian weirdness” to the event, a mix of old music fused with the 80s Prog/Electronic Rock. Ok…now I’m curious.
Community
Like any truly artistic gathering, a community is built where collaborations extend in between yearly events. Friends are made and get to reconnect at the event. You are guaranteed to see familiar faces if you go more than once.
Everyone is welcome at Shazamfest. Even if you can’t afford a ticket, Ziv invites you to write and they will see how they can help.
“Art is supposed to be democratic. Everyone should particiate.”
What to Expect
Expect the unexpected and simply enjoy an experience you don’t want to miss.
