Mewn’s unstoppable rise continues, each new release spotlights new layers of songcraft and claws at tangible everyday emotion. The Manchester outfit provide building blocks for their future, every song has it’s own heartfelt journey and story, which the five-piece manage to effortlessly crystallise in time.

‘Swell’ feels both cemented in the hypervigilance of the present and washed out in a dream state whereby days turn into weeks, which turn into months, before our minds have had the chance to digest the details. The late September release date of ‘Swell’ acts as the perfect soundtrack to the not so subtle changing of the seasons, the buoyant keys sound offers hope which the anthemic instrumental builds doubles down on, leaving us with pockets of euphoria to thrive within.

The slow-burning introduction feels like the plod of everyday existence, built on day jobs and thoughtful early morning travels to work as the cutting Autumn weather sets in. Like much of Mewn’s back catalogue, ‘Swell’ provides a friendly shoulder to lean upon, full of warmth and understanding, though the storytelling doesn’t sugar-coat the truth, it pines for a new dawn while riding the waves of modern-day turmoil.

New single ‘Swell’ makes up part of Mewn’s second EP, ‘Such As This’, set for release on October 7th via Simonie Records. Vocalist Daniel Bluer notes that, “It’s about control and lack of it, hurtling around without the ability to change the direction. I sometimes feel like I’ve blinked and so much has transpired without much conscious decision making. Swell is a reflection on how this makes me feel.”
