John Summit turns in requested tech-house take on Kx5, Hayla’s ‘Escape’

Dancing Astronaut | June 3, 2022

Pairing one of the year’s biggest releases thus far with Dancing Astronaut‘s 2021 Breakout Artist of the Year couldn’t be a more of a surefire tandem. Coming off the first-ever in-person appearance for Kx5Kaskade and deadmau5‘s new joint alias that they’d introduced back in March—at EDC Las Vegas, the duo decided that its Hayla-backed release debut warranted its first revision. And there was no one better for the job than John Summit, who had already been playing out the original in the weeks leading up to the unveiling of his “Escape” spin under the Sahara Tent during Coachella’s first weekend.

We’d already seen Summit’s name on our weekly new music tweet four other times this year, most recently for his christening of Off The Grid Records at the start of May. And after just about everyone under the sun had been tagging Summit in tweets about the “Escape” rework following his circuitGROUNDS set, Kx5 deemed it the most opportune moment to strike through a fifth tally mark on Summit’s 2022 release record. Taking to mau5trap for the first time, Summit spells out Kx5’s progressive-laden original in his own tech-house terms, repurposing Hayla’s authoritative lyrics within a clean-cut rework that somehow elevates “Escape” into even higher standing.
