Festival Report Card: EDC Mexico 2023

EDC Mexico is one of the most highly anticipated electronic dance music festivals in the world.

This annual event takes place in Mexico City, where music lovers from all over the globe come together for a weekend filled with incredible music, spectacular light shows, and unforgettable memories.

The festival features an impressive lineup of some of the biggest names in the EDM industry, including world-class DJs, producers, and live performers.

With its vibrant atmosphere and state-of-the-art production, EDC Mexico has become a must-attend event for any EDM enthusiast looking to experience the ultimate festival experience.

EDM Maniac had the privilege to cover the three-day extravaganza. With open minds and no set expectations, we packed our bags and made our journey to EDC Mexico.

EDC Mexico 2023Vibes: B

The vibes at EDC Mexico are different from what you would normally see at a U.S. festival. The rave culture in Mexico is similar to European rave culture, where not everyone is versed in the meaning of PLUR.

Most people kept to their groups and did not interact very much with others outside of their circles. There was a lot of pushing and shoving without saying “excuse me”, or in this case, “con permiso”.

EDC Mexico is also a festival for all ages. From strollers to canes, we saw guests of all ages. The average crowd ranged from teens to 30-year-olds.

Production: B+

The production at EDC Mexico was similar to EDC Las Vegas’ production. Kinetic Field and Stereo Bloom featured the same stages we had previously seen at EDC Las Vegas and EDC Orlando last year.

The stages were equipped with lasers, pyrotechnics, CO2, and LED-lighting. The main stages also had fireworks. Due to the pollution in Mexico City, the hosts of EDC were limited to how much pyro and fireworks they could use. However, the lasers made up for the lack of fireworks.

The sound quality at EDC Mexico was inconsistent. The sound systems at most of the stages were extremely low the first day. Circuit Grounds had technical difficulties a few times as well. These issues, fortunately, were fixed for the following days of the festival, which we appreciated.

If you’re looking for an international festival to splurge on with VIP tickets, this is the festival. VIP at EDC Mexico actually feels like VIP, with plenty of relaxation spots, elevated viewing areas, a beauty and barber bar, multiple photo-op areas, exclusive food trucks, well-lit restrooms with AC and someone to direct bathroom lines at all times, and even golf carts to get from stage to stage.

EDC Mexico Circuit Grounds 2023Music: A

EDC Mexico 2023 was an electrifying event that featured an impressive lineup of talented artists and producers from a wide range of genres within the EDM spectrum.

The festival’s mainstage saw performances by some of the biggest names in the industry, including Martin Garrix and Tiësto. These headliners brought their signature sounds to the stage, showcasing the best of progressive house, electro house, and big room anthems.

Meanwhile, the Neon Garden stage featured sets from the likes of I Hate Models, Charlotte de Witte, and Adam Beyer showcasing the best of techno.

The Circuit Grounds stage catered to a wide range of EDM fans, with performances by Matroda, Above & Beyond, and Eric Prydz taking center stage. Bass heads got their fix with sets from Jessica Audiffred, Slander, Liquid Stranger, and Sullivan King.

Guests were also spoiled with artists well-known to Mexico who we typically don’t see in U.S. festivals. The Dos Equis stage included sets that focused more on reggaeton, bachata, and other Latin-influenced sounds.

Overall, the music catered to the local culture, and we loved listening to the general music taste from Mexican dance music enthusiasts.

Venue: B

EDC Mexico 2023 took place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, a world-renowned racing circuit located in the heart of Mexico City.

The venue provided an expansive and open-air setting, allowing for multiple stages, carnival rides, art installations, and other interactive experiences that make EDC a truly immersive festival.

The venue also provided easy access for festivalgoers, with ample parking and public transportation options available.

Something that stuck out to us about the venue was the uneven terrain. Guests were constantly tripping over bumpy or rocky areas. Though there were paved paths, you couldn’t avoid the rough terrain. This was not ideal for people with disabilities and if not paying close attention to where you stepped, could be very hazardous.

Considering all of the activations and stages, there was actually plenty of space for people to dance and move from stage to stage quickly. However, there were times where there would be traffic jams after bigger artists played and people were shoulder to shoulder trying to get to the next stage.

Arriving and leaving the festival is a mission in itself, as there is already heavy traffic in Mexico City. We suggest leaving an hour or so before your desired arrival or departure time.

EDC Mexico Kinetic Field 2023Overall: B+

In conclusion, EDC Mexico 2023 provided an unforgettable experience for electronic dance music fans from around the world. From the incredible lineup of world-class artists to the cool visual displays and interactive experiences, the festival delivered.

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez provided a unique backdrop for the event, with its spacious layout and special atmosphere perfectly complementing the festival’s energy and vibe.

The enthusiasm of the crowds added to the already electrifying experience, creating a sense of unity and connection that can only be found at a festival like EDC.
