Patrick Barry Gives New Life to Roy Orbison Classic ‘You Got It’

After achieving significant success as part of the band Navar and The Barry Brothers, Patrick Barry looks to continue delivering high-quality melodies. Barry’s first steps to becoming the musician he is today started when he was just 18 years old in 1998 as a Marine stationed at Twentynine Palms, CA, the period on which he wrote his first love songs; these early pieces would shape Navar’s debut album.

As part of Navar and The Barry Brothers, Patrick recorded four studio albums and toured with Alternative 90s legends such as Third Eye Blind, The Goo Goo Dolls, and Reel Big Fish, to name a few.

His newest offering is a new version of Roy Orbison‘s posthumous classic, You Got It, a song that holds a special place in Barry’s heart not only for the memories that it contains but also for what it represents to perform this particular track, as Barry explains:

“I remember hearing for the first time when I was an 8-year-old that loved to sing…and it’s stuck with me ever since. What makes it even more special is that it is the recording debut of my 17-year-old stepson Judah on bass. I also only realised recently that Tom Petty (my wife walked down the aisle to “Here Comes My Girl” if that tells you the kind of fans we are) co-wrote the song with Roy and Jeff Lynne during the Traveling Willbury’s era“.

For this rendition, Patrick kept the structure of this melody while adding enough original elements to give this tune a new face, including his fantastic mixture of Folk and Blues, and refreshing guitar passages.

You Got It is a respectful and well-penned tribute to an already beautiful composition. Its many memorable moments will leave a smile on your face for sure.

With so much experience under his belt, it’s easy to see why Patrick Barry excels as a performer, and despite his lengthy career, is crystal clear that he has so much to give, meaning that the best from this artist is yet to come.
